Composition notebook Ipad cover

This is an AWESOME way to reuse an old composition notebook!

You will need -

  • A composition notebook
  • The plastic insert that the ipad came in
  • 2x elastic hair bands or 1x elastic hair band and 2x hair bobbles
  • Hot glue gun or super glue
  • Pen and ruler
  • Scissors

Remove the pages of the composition notebook- this is fairly easy to do as the are held in by string so you can just cut it with scissors.

Mark on the plastic insert the height of the composition notebook and draw all the way around.

Cut the top off of the plastic tray

and then cut off one side.
With the remaining 2 corners, cut (on the larger side) down to the line you drew so that the corner is removed.
Score along the line with scissors or a sharp knife (be careful not to cut all the way through) and bend them inwards. Cut off the edges that overlap.

Line up inside the composition notebook. Close it over to make sure it fits and test it out with the ipad as well before you glue anything! Glue with a glue gun or superglue when you are happy with the place.

hot glue one of the hair bands just right of the spine. Make sure to pull it firm before you do so, so that it will hold the ipad in well.
Do the same with the second hair band but this time glue it to the back of the notebook. This one will hold the book closed.

DO NOT put the ipad in UNTIL THE GLUE DRIES! haha- may seems obvious but you don't want any messy, gluey ipads!

Personalised ceramic mug

This is literally "A Quick Craft" that costs just £1. £1- SUPER CHEAP!

You will need -
  • A Sharpie
  • A ceramic mug

So I just picked up a mug at the pound shop (dollar store) for...you guessed it..£1 and I already had a Sharpie so I was good to go. If you have a mug already that you want to revamp then you don't even need to buy a new one!

Then, just decorate your mug however you like with the Sharpie- I went for my initial and I wrote a quote on the other side.
And personalised the bottom with the date.

Then, just bake in the oven for 30 mins at 175 degrees C (350 degrees F). Washing the mug in the dishwasher will make the writing last longer than if you scrub it by hand. If you don't have a dishwasher, just be careful when washing over the writing.

    Polymer clay pens

Have any old biro pens lying around? This is a great way to add a pop of colour to your desk and reuse those old pens.

    You will need -

    • polymer clay- I used Fimo
    • pens- pens which you can remove the ink from
    • a rolling pin
    • something sharp- a knife or scissors

Make sure the ink can be removed, so you are just left with the empty plastic tube.

Choose 2 colours- I went for pink and white. Using half of the clay, roll one colour into a sausage shape and roll the other out flat.

Cut the flat colour into a rectangle shape.

Wrap the rectangle around the sausage shaped one. Then trim each end so they are the same length.

Chop the long piece into 4-6 equal length smaller pieces.

Pile them on top of each other and roll again into another long sausage shape.

     Slice in to little pieces.
When you have sliced the whole sausage shape into little piece, they should look like this.
Stick all the little pieces onto the empty pen tube- don't worry about spaces yet! Just stick on so majory is covered.

Once all the pieces are stuck on, roll the pen back and forth and...hey presto! spaces are filled in! make sure it is smooth all over and all the spaces are completely covered.

Bake for 30mins at 110 degrees C (230 degrees F) on a baking tray. Once they're ready, allow to cool for around 15 mins before putting the ink back in.

And now you have some super cool new funky pens for your desk!

    Plastic animal candle holders

This is a fun craft which reuses those old plastic animals you still have lying around from when you were a kid. Great way to turn boring candle holders into something more fun! They look awesome on cupcakes or just for decoration!

    You will need -
    • plastic animals
    • plastic candle holders
    • drill with 1/8″ drill bit OR a screw and screw driver
    • pliers
    • gold spray paint
For the plastic animals, any kind you have is fine. However, keep in mind the size of the cake you want to use them for. Two points to consider- the first, the animals should be able to stand alone- I had a few that topped over so I didn't use those ones. The second thing, the flatter the animal's back, the easier it is to make the hole for the candle holder.

If you have a drill- use it! Hold the animal in pliers and drill straight down (being careful not to pop out the other side!). If you don't have a drill- like me- use a screw and screwdriver and screw it into the animal's back (it's not too difficult).
Put holes like this in each animal

Check the candle holders all fit in the animals' backs. You will need to take them out again to spray paint- this will allow both the holder and animal to be completely covered in paint.

Lightly spray both sides of the animals and candle holder until totally covered. MAKE SURE that your spray paint is one that adheres to plastic. If not, use a primer. Leave for a few hours to make sure they are completely dry before putting back together.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial- this is the video which accompanies this post:

    Hello

and welcome to 'A Quick Craft'.
I have an exceptionally long summer ahead of me (not that I'm complaining!), and I am always looking for a new fun craft or DIY project to do. I thought that I would start a blog for the summer and see where it takes me.
I aim to do one craft a week which will most likely be accompanied by a video. I look forward to creating lots of cool new things!
